Компания

The first step of OYAK into paper industry was when they started production of multi-layer kraft bags made of kraft paper within the body of OYKA Paper Packing Industry and Trade Inc. which performs activity at OYAK Cement Group. According to the company’s milestones given below, OYKA was processing paper until 2003 when the company purchased SEKA Caycuma Plant and started to produce paper.

As one of the most important supplies of humanity, paper has been in use for thousands of years. The first paper discovered – in the currently used form - in A.D. 105 by the Chinese, could access to Europe in the 12th century, that is, nearly one thousand years later. Developing throughout centuries, the technology has enabled production in high amounts; the first modern plant in Turkey started production in 1936.

Being aware of the importance of paper, almost all developed nations which have rich forestry resources have succeeded in taking their place on top of the world paper industry with their rational activities. Top countries of the list include Canada, USA, Finland, Sweden and Russia. Developing countries also consider integrated paper production plants as a criterion of being regarded as developed countries.
Today, 400 million tons of paper is produced annually at over 10 thousand plants at which 3 million employees work. This creates a trade volume of nearly 500 billion dollars.

The competition environment of 90s in paper industry, where raw material is of utmost importance and which is an energy-dense industry has brought the issue of mergers and acquisitions between companies on the agenda with the impact of globalization; few companies had a voice in production.
